Most netbooks on the market today have VGA ports, but very few support HDMI output for HD video. That makes sense, since most netbooks struggle with anything higher resolution than 720p. The exception are netbooks with NVIDIA ION graphics processors or Broadcom Crystal HD video accelerators — but those are still the exception, not the rule.

That could all change in a little over a year. Fudzilla reports that when Intel brings its Cedar Trail-M Atom platform to market in the second half of 2011, it will have full support for 1080p HD video and better media and graphics functionality all around. The platform will also reportedly support HDMI output, which will make it as easy to plug a netbook into an HDTV as it is to plug in a monitor today.

Of course, a lot can change in a year. So let’s take this report with a grain of salt. But it does sound like a promising… if somewhat overdue development.

One of the iPad complaints I hear from long-time tablet PC enthusiasts is that the <a href="http://www.batterysupport.com/apple-laptop-battery-c-125_127.html"title="apple" >Apple iPad’s capacitive touchscreen isn’t really designed for accurate drawing or handwriting. That’s because it doesn’t recognize pressure-sensitive input and it doesn’t automatically ignore input from your palm. That means if you rest your palm on the screen while using a stylus or fingertip to draw, you might accidentally end up scribbling with your palm and finger/stylus at the same time.

Some people have found a way around this, by essentially putting a sock or other piece of cloth between their palm and the iPad screen. This works because the capacitive touchscreen recognizes electrical impulses from your skin — and the cloth masks that.

But the folks behind the smartNote app for the iPad have come up with a solution that doesn’t require you to carry around an extra sock. If you want to draw or write in smartNote 1.02, all you have to is set up a palm ignoring area. You can adjust the size of the palm ignoring area and when you rest your hand on the screen to write, all input in that box will be ignored. The really cool part is that the box moves with your hand, so you don’t have to keep your palm steady as you try to write.

The app isn’t just designed for inking on an iPad. It lets you type and draw notes, set text input areas, delete notes, change fonts, text styles, and other settings.

You can see the smartNote palm ignoring tech in action in the video below, starting at about the 4 minute point. The app is available for download from the iTunes App Store for $0.99.

Among them, the 13.3-inch 11.6-inch and two specifications of the most selling. At present, due to 13.3-inch screen on the motherboard and unstable supply, resulting in frequent stock-out situation. The new 11.6-inch listing in the market supply is relatively abundant.

This 11.6-inch Apple imitation piano black exterior paint combined with aesthetic curve shape, especially in the top cover on the LOGO to open an Apple logo at boot time, use the screen backlight can make the LOGO, revealed a bright, without any loss of power. 25MM used ultra-thin body, but also Apple's only real machine than the thickness of a little bit, the whole weight only 1.3KG.

Configuration using the Intel Atom N450 processor, 1G of memory and 160G hard drive, performance compared to the old section of the N280 have a certain upgrade. The daily office of ordinary users, video and audio entertainment can meet. Watch movies in high definition 720P standard, can be completely smooth playback. Last year, a website with the Internet this test Warcraft, through the line of fire, etc. 8 classic games, speed is quite satisfactory. The same time, 11.6-inch LCD screen is more cost-effective, much to replace last year's popular 10-inch trend.

The Asus Eee PC 1201NL is basically a cheaper version of the Eee PC 1201N. While both models have 12.1 inch, 1366 x 768 pixel displays and NVIDIA ION graphics, the 1201N has a dual core Atom 330 processor and ships with Windows 7 Home Premium, while the 1201NL has a single core Atom N270 [...]

The <a href="http://www.batterysupport.com/asus-laptop-battery-c-125_128.html"title="asus" >Asus Eee PC 1201NL is basically a cheaper version of the Eee PC 1201N. While both models have 12.1 inch, 1366 x 768 pixel displays and NVIDIA ION graphics, the 1201N has a dual core Atom 330 processor and ships with Windows 7 Home Premium, while the 1201NL has a single core Atom N270 CPU and Windows XP. It’s also expected to be generally cheaper. On the other hand, there’s very little setting this notebook apart from other ION-based laptops such as the <a href="http://www.batterysupport.com/lenovo-laptop-battery-c-125_133.html"title="lenovo" >Lenovo IdeaPad S12, <a href="http://www.batterysupport.com/samsung-digital-camera-battery-c-86_96.html"title="samsung" >Samsung N510, and <a href="http://www.batterysupport.com/hp-laptop-battery-c-125_131.html"title="hp" >HP Mini 311.

The folks at TechTree in India got their hands on a pre-release Eee PC 1201NL, and they seem reasonably impressed with the machine — especially compared to the budget Eee PC 1201T which has an AMD processor, ATI graphcis, and ships without any operating system at all.

TechTree reports that the Eee PC 1201NL has a brighter screen than the 1201T and gets better <a href="http://www.batterysupport.com"title="battery" >battery life — which is a relative term, since the 1201NL still topped out at just 3.5 hours of run time. It also handles HD video playback more smoothly thanks to the bundled ArcSoft media player which works with the NVIDIA ION graphics to enable 1080p HD video playback.

The reviewer does point out that the Eee PC 1201NL actually ships with NVIDIA ION LE graphcis instead of full ION graphics. That means there’s no out of the box support for DirectX 10. But if you’re adventurous, you can hack the graphics driver to support DirectX 10.

<a href="http://www.batterysupport.com/apple-laptop-battery-c-125_127.html"title="apple" >Apple may or may not eventually succeed in pushing the world toward a future where Adobe Flash isn’t the most popular format for web video and casual web-based video games like Farmville. But we don’t live in Apple’s world just yet, and while a number of companies have developed apps that will stream live video to the iPad sans Flash, a web browser without Flash still feels a bit crippled in the multimedia department. And that’s why I get a little excited every time I hear about a Google android tablet on the horizon with Flash support.

The latest is the Cruz tablet from Velocity Micro. The Cruz will reportedly be a 7 inch tablet with an 800MHz ARM-based processor. It will run Google android 2.1 and support Adobe Flash Player 10.1. Of course, by the time it’s released later this summer, Adobe Flash Player 10.1 for Android might be widely available for other tablets and smartphones as well. Bu tyou know, Velocity Micro went through the trouble of putting it in the promotional materials.

Engadget reports that the tablet will come in two flavors, one with a 16:9 aspect ratio display and another with a 4:3 screen. Each should cost around $300 or less. You can check out some hands-on photos of the tablet at Engadget.

While dozens of companies have announced plans to bring tablets running Google’s Android operating system to market sometime this year, Archos is one of the few that has actually been selling Android tablets since last year. But if the Archos 5 Internet Tablet with its small 5 inch display isn’t your cup of tea, it looks like you’ll have a new choice soon. Archos introduced the Archos 7 and 8 Home Tablets last month, and now the Archos 7 is avialable for pre-order from Amazon for $199.99.

The Archos 7 Home Tablet has a 7 inch, 800 x 480 pixel display, a 600MHz ARM-based processor, and enough graphics pow to handle 720p HD video playback. The Archos 7 is supposed to come with between 2GB and 8GB of flash storage space, but the model up for pre-order from Amazon has 8GB. The 2GB model will presumably be a bit cheaper if and when it hits the streets

Linux computer builders System76 have added a new netbook to their lineup. The System76 Starling EduBook is basically a rebadged Intel Classmate PC with a 10.1 inch, 1024 x 600 pixel display and 1.66GHz Intel Atom N450 processor.

Linux computer builders System76 have added a new netbook to their lineup. The System76 Starling EduBook is basically a rebadged Intel Classmate PC with a 10.1 inch, 1024 x 600 pixel display and 1.66GHz Intel Atom N450 processor.

But while most Classmate PC models are sold with Windows XP or Windows 7, the Starling EduBook will ship with Ubuntu 10.04 Education Edition Netbook Remix.

The netbook will begin shipping in May, but it’s available for pre-order today. Because it ships with Linux instead of Windows, it’s not bound by Microsoft’s hardware constraints for netbooks. So while the base model costs $399 and ships with 1GB of RAM, you can spend some extra cash to upgrade to 2GB of memory — although to be honest, it’s probably cheaper to upgrade yourself instead of paying $69 for a 2GB SODIMM from System76.

For some reason, the Starling EduBook is only available with a 160GB hard drive though.

Rounding out the specs are 802.11a/b/g/n WiFi, 3 USB ports, VGA output, mic and headphone jacks, an SD card reader, a 0.3MP webcam, and a 6 cell <a href="http://www.batterysupport.com"title="battery" >battery. The netbook measurs 10″ x 8″ x 1.5″ and measures 2.8 pounds. It has a semi-ruggedized design and is built for students. it even comes with a detachable handle, allowing you to easily carry around the netbook without throwing it in a bag.

If you don’t need all the special education features, System76 also offers the Starling NetBook for $359. This model is a bit thinner and lighter and ships with Ubuntu Netbook Remix 9.10 and a 1.6GHz INtel Atom N270 CPU. It comes standard with 2GB of RAM and 802.11b/g/ WiFi

Two of the first laptops to get next-generation NVIDIA ION graphics are the <a href="http://www.batterysupport.com/asus-laptop-battery-c-125_128.html"title="asus" >Asus Eee PC 1201PN 12.1 inch notebook and the <a href="http://www.batterysupport.com/acer-laptop-battery-c-125_126.html"title="acer" >Acer Aspire One 532g netbook. Neither model is available for purchase in the US yet… but French retailer Fnac has added product listings for each.

The Acer netbook is expected to start shipping on May 14th, while Fnac says the Asus laptop should be available in France by May 1st.

The Asus Eee PC 1201PN features a 1.66GHz Intel Atom N450 processor and NVIDIA’s latest ION graphics chip for HD video and 3D graphics.

The notebook has a 12.1 inch, 1366 x 768 pixel HD display, 2GB of RAM, a 320GB hard drive, 802.11a/b/g/n WiFi, and Bluetooth 2.1 as well as an HDMI output and a 6 cell, 5600mAh <a href="http://www.batterysupport.com"title="battery" >battery. The laptop runs Windows 7 Home Premium and will sell for 499 Euros, or about $676 — but I suspect the price will be much lower when the Eee PC 1201PN is released in the US.

The Acer Aspire One 532g has a 1.66GHz Intel Atom N450 processor and a less capable version of NVIDIA’s new ION graphics platform. While it will still support HD video playback and 3D graphics, it has half the shaders of the ION chip used in the Eee PC 1201PN. This will help reduce costs and energy consumption while still letting you watch HD video on a low power netbook.

The Acer netbook also has a 10.1 inch, 1024 x 600 pixel display, 1GB of RAM, and a 160GB hard drive. It has 802.11b/g/n WiFi and a 6 cell, 4400mAh battery and runs Windows 7 Starter Edition. There’s no Bluetooth or HDMI output on this model. The Aspire One 532g will sell for $369 euros, or about $500 US
